Is it worth ceramic coating wheels?

I get asked this question all of the time and the short answer is no!

The benefits of ceramic coating a car does not really appy to wheels.

Does ceramic coating reduce brake dust?

It does not reduce brake dust build up which is the main reason people enquire about ceramic coating wheels. The best way to reduce brake dust is to change your brake pads to ceramic pads which will reduce brake dust by about 90%. They are only slightly more expensive than standard brake pads!

What are the benefits of ceramic coating wheels?

There are no benefits that make it viable.

What are the issues with ceramic coating wheels?

If you damage a wheel and it needs painting it makes it very difficult to repair because paint wont stick to ceramic coating which means that it has to be removed. If it is not fully removed then the paint will flake off and it is near impossible to ensure that all ceramic coating has been removed.

Ceramic coating wheels is time consuming and expensive so not good value for money.

Does Mobile Wheel Repairs offer Ceramic Coating wheels as a service?

We do not offer ceramic coating wheels as a service because it is not a viable option.

Is there any situation where ceramic coating would be applied to wheels?

Yes. We use ceramic coating on polished alloy wheels as it offers protection against corrosion. Clear coats cannot be effectively applied to polished alloy as it will flake off so ceramic coating is a good option and repairs can still be done and the ceramic coating re-applied.
